Jarateng Cave
Jarateng Cave is in the Giants Castle area. Picture credit thanks to Dylan Harris.
The cave can sleep up to 8 people as it it quite deep and wide but fairly low. The protection is great from all elements as the entrance is almost slanted downwards with a slight overhang and acts as a barrier. Most of the heat is also retained in the cave. The view is exceptional, especially at sunrise/ sunset..
The only issue is fresh water, which can only be gathered almost 350m back down the pass..

A Trip Up Jarateng Pass
Myself and two mates recently ventured up Jarateng/ Jardings Pass on a misty day. We walked through a thick cloud-line and vast, open hills to reach Jarateng Cave: a small slit in the side of the mountain that opens into a larger open space accommodating of about 6 people. The opening of the cave has a slight overhang which shields the wind and rain. The inside has semi-low roofing but is quite deep. All-in-all a very nice cave and well-protected.
